\nMIDDLEBURY, Conn. \u2013 The 23nd Annual OKTOBERFEST is slated for noon to 6
\np.m., Saturday, Sept. 27 and Sunday, Sept. 28, at Quassy Amusement Park here.
\nNew features of the two-day event include at 5K charity run and variety of
\nfield games on Sept. 27 as well as a canine flying disc competition on
\nSept. 28.
\nBands performing for the event, which is held in the Fieldside Pavilion at
\nthe lakeside facility are: Joe Stanky & The Cadets on Saturday and John
\nStevens\u2019 Doubleshot on Sunday. Both bands hail from eastern Pennsylvania and
\nhave played for years at festivals, amusement parks and other large venues.
\nThe live music starts at 12:30 p.m. both days.
\nThe Harugari Junior Schuhplattlers dance group will entertain during band
\nintermissions on Saturday with the Alpenland Tanzer Dancers performing on
\nSunday.
\nAdmission to the OKTOBERFEST pavilion is free, with fees for food,
\nbeverages, rides and attractions in the park. Parking for the event is $6 per car.
\nQuassy Amusement Park is located at 2132 Middlebury Road.
\nTraditional festival food in the pavilion will include knackwurst,
\nbratwurst, sauerkraut, potato pancakes, roasted pork and steamed vegetables. There
\nwill be a variety of other menu items available as well during the two-day
\nfestival. Complete dinners or individual entrees will be sold.
\n5K Charity Fundraiser
\nThe 5K Charity Fundraiser will benefit a variety of non-profit
\norganizations in the region. Participating charities will receive $10 for each runner
\nwho pre-registers under the organization\u2019s name. The $20 pre-registration is
\n currently active online at

\nRunners will register at 10 a.m. at the park on race day with a noon start
\nfor the 5K. A poker run will also be part of the event with a variety of
\nprizes.
\nAdult and family field games will start at 2:15 p.m. with awards at 4:30
\np.m. Contests will include three-legged races, pumpkin toss and keg toss.
\nBarktoberfest Flying Disc Competition
\nThe Yankee Flyers Dog and Disc Club will present Barktoberfest in the
\ngreat lawn area of the park on Sept. 28. Onsite registration starts at noon
\nwith the competition slated to run 12:30 to 6 p.m. The event will feature an
\nUpDog Challenge, a combination of disc and agility for all levels of
\ncompetitors, according to Yankee Flyers President Corinne Brewer, who is
\ncoordinating the competition.

\nQuassy Amusement Park is in its 105th year and features more than two-dozen
\n rides and attractions. The lakeside property is also home to \u201cSplash Away
\nBay\u201d waterpark with the new \u201cBulletBowl\u201d water raft ride and \u201cFreeFall\u201d
\nextreme body slides. In addition, a children\u2019s splash pad titled the \u201cFish
\nPond\u201d opened this year.
\nQuassy also features a new laser maze attraction in its huge arcade
\nbuilding.
\nRides include the award-winning \u201cWooden Warrior\u201d roller coaster, \u201cMusic
\nFest,\u201d \u201cYo-Yo\u201d super swings, \u201cFree Fall \u2018N\u2019 Drop Tower,\u201d \u201cGrand Carousel\u201d
\nand more.
\nThe park also has a restaurant, redemption arcade, games, live
\nentertainment and special events.
\nSeason passes for 2015 are on sale now at the park office and through the
\nQuassy Web site at _www.quassy.com_ (http:\/\/www.quassy.com\/)<\/a> . Company
\npicnics, school fieldtrips and other catered events are also being scheduled
\nthrough the park office at 203-758-2913.
