Great Nor Easter 2012

(4 March 2012, Agawam, MA)

The Great Nor\’Easter is a welcome mid winter event for the ACE New England region.   This year\’s Nor\’Easter was graciously hosted by Six Flags New England, and there was a robust attendance of 113 members.

We opened with a socializing game, led by none other than our own Assistant Rep Donna Piper.  The object was to find other ACErs that met certain criteria, which was outlined on a handout.  To succeed you collected signatures of fellow ACErs,  which led to members mingling and meeting new people.

Following this icebreaker, we saw a presentation from ADC (Aquatic Development Group) and all their Alpine coaster pioneering works.  They showed off their creations, and current projects. Some features of these coasters (though not officially recognized as coasters)  include the ability of Ski areas to have new streams of revenue, year round.

ACE Day at Canobie Lake

13 Aug 2011, Salem NH

A picture perfect day at Canobie Lake Park was the setting for ACErs to enjoy the park, its attractions and many concessions.  The day started with some ERT on the historic Yankee Cannonball and the brand new Untamed coasters.

Untamed, a Gerstlauer Amusement Euro Fighter is the parks latest addition.  This fun compact ride is a perfect fit to the parks traditional family oriented ambiance.  It packs a lot of thrill into a small space, with all the elements from the loop-d-loop , Top hat turn and even a 0 g roll.  It is a lot of fun.

The park has taken the theming seriously, and is uniquely New Hampshire.  The detailing of Untamed is terrific, the birch tree painting on the coasters uprights, the unique station and bear carvings all set the scene.  The newly renovated \”Bear Lodge\” and big bear Plaza pulls the theming of the ride out into the park, enhancing the experience.

The Yankee Cannonball, what can I say, its a classic Herb Schmeck woodie, that has been kept in tip top shape.  The Out and back layout with its L shape is still a great ride.  The park has obviously dedicated itself to maintaining the ride, and the recent track work has kept its charm and character intact.  A side effect of the recent work, the ride is smoother, and faster, as the turnaround has quite a bit more speed in the turn… Wonderful !

Attendees, spent most of the day out and around the park, taking in the wonderful shows at the ballroom, and riding everything, as the park offers a wide variety of classic flat rides, as well as several newer ones
